Quality Starts with the Confirmed Project Scope
For new construction, the architectural drawings, window schedule, energy report and relevant specifications should be reviewed before the order is confirmed. For replacement projects, existing openings, frame condition, wall construction, access, drainage and surrounding finishes can influence the recommended product and installation method.

Understanding Whole-Window Performance
Double glazing can reduce heat transfer through the glazed area, but performance depends on the complete window. Aluminium frame design, thermal breaks, Low-E coatings, spacer systems, seals, opening type, orientation, shading and installation all influence the final result.
U-value
U-value measures the rate of heat transfer through the whole window and is expressed in W/m²K. A lower whole-window U-value generally indicates less heat transfer. When an energy report specifies a maximum U-value, the proposed frame and glass combination should be checked against that requirement.
Solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC)
SHGC describes how much solar heat passes through the window. A lower number admits less solar heat, but the most suitable value depends on orientation, climate, shading and the building design. It should not be assumed that the lowest SHGC is automatically best for every opening.

Glass, Safety and Acoustic Requirements
Glass selection should consider the opening size and location, human impact risk, bathroom privacy, energy-report requirements and any acoustic report. Options may include clear glass, safety glass, laminated glass, Low-E glass, obscure glass and different double-glazed configurations. Acoustic performance depends on glass thickness, lamination, air gap, seals, frame design, opening style and installation—not simply whether a unit is double glazed.

Window and door selections should be reviewed against the applicable project plans, energy report, National Construction Code requirements and relevant Australian Standards. Requirements vary with building class, location, wind rating, opening size, glass position and use.
If certification, test information or a certificate of compliance is required for your project, identify this during quotation and confirm which documents form part of the agreed scope before ordering. A product should not be represented as suitable for every building or opening without reviewing the relevant project requirements.
Manufacturing and Installation Checks
Quality checks depend on the product and agreed scope. Relevant checks may include frame dimensions and squareness, glass and hardware against the order, panel operation, roller adjustment, locks and anti-lift devices, sill drainage, frame fixing, sealing and final opening and closing operation.
