Low-E & Argon Double Glazing Melbourne
Low-E coatings and argon-filled cavities can improve glazing performance, but the glass specification should be considered together with the aluminium frame and complete window configuration. JL uses project requirements and whole-window performance data where available rather than treating every Low-E or double-glazed unit as equivalent.

These are centre-of-glass reference values for the listed glazing configurations. They are not whole-window ratings. Frame system, size, opening type, seals, edge conditions and other specification changes affect complete-window performance.
What Does Low-E Mean?
Low-emissivity glass uses a coating designed to reduce radiant heat transfer. Different Low-E coatings can have different U-value, solar heat gain and visible-light characteristics, so the term “Low-E” by itself is not a complete performance specification.
What Does Argon Do?
Argon can be used in the sealed cavity of an insulated glass unit as part of the glazing package. The performance result still depends on the complete IGU construction and should not be judged from the gas fill alone.
Centre-of-Glass vs Whole-Window U-value
This distinction is important. A glass unit with a centre-of-glass U-value of 1.3 does not mean the finished aluminium window has a U-value of 1.3. Whole-window values account for the complete frame and glazing system.

Essential, Thermal or Thermal Plus?
Glass and frame should be selected as one package. JL’s Essential Series uses standard aluminium systems, while Thermal and Thermal Plus provide thermally separated frame options for projects requiring stronger whole-window performance. The energy report and project brief should guide the final combination.
Builders: Match the Energy Report
If the project has nominated U-value and SHGC requirements, send the energy report together with the plans and window schedule. JL can review suitable frame and glazing combinations against the project information.
